Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic

At the end of December, China informed the WHO (World Health Organization) that they had a severe problem: an unknown, new virus was causing illness in the city of Wuhan. They quickly determined that it was a Coronavirus and it was rapidly spreading through and outside of Wuhan and caused many deaths in a short period.

Coronavirus is common in various kinds of animals and they sometimes can infect humans. Since the start of the century, two types of coronavirus has jumped to humans named SARS in 2002 and MERS in 2012 causing a great effect on human lifestyle.

According to the scientists, this virus was detected in humans at the end of December. Originally it seemed like the virus originated from a seafood market in Wuhan. But the early analysis of a case, published January 24th, resulted as the first patient who got infected with the virus had no contact with the seafood market. But experts are still trying to break the outcome of the virus.

The origin of this virus is still not found. But a study tells that the characteristics of this virus are 96 percent the same as the earlier originated two coronavirus named SARS and MERS. Both the viruses originated from bats and maybe COVID-19 is spread through bats.

The sad reality about coronavirus disease is that it’s spreading on a higher ratio day by day.

We don’t know how many people will get affected by it but the thing we know is how many people are getting affected and how to take precautions to prevent ourselves from getting in contact with the virus.

How does the coronavirus disease spread?

Coronavirus disease is a respiratory virus that generally spreads through the droplets generated if an infected person coughs or sneezes, also when a person who is not infected comes in contact with saliva of the infected person or discharges from the nose. In day to day life, we touch many things and probably the virus can be present on the things which we touch and it may even pass to other people.

This disease can spread very easily and can show its effects very badly on a person.

In short, it can infect a person just by coming in contact with a minor touch with the virus or an infected person.

Is the virus more dangerous than other viruses?

Most cases of COVID-19 are not serious but it can lead to severe symptoms which can lead to the death of a person.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has been sudden. This makes it difficult to estimate the severeness and the mortality of the disease.

One report suggests that out of people with confirmed cases in China, around 16% became severe. Another report estimates that about 3.6% of the confirmed cases in China led to death.

These figures are likely to change as the situation evolves. However, they suggest that COVID-19 is more deadly than influenza. For example, seasonal influenza typically leads to death in less than 0.1% of cases.

When testing becomes easier for the doctors it may lead to knowing the correct number of people infected by the virus and WHO may provide correct statistics about the pandemic. For the organizations to know the SARS is another type of coronavirus it became a global pandemic in 2002–2003. Around 9.6% of SARS cases led to death. However, COVID-19 is more contagious, and it is already the cause of more deaths worldwide.

Symptoms of coronavirus

People may be sick for 1-14 days with the virus before developing symptoms. All the symptoms which ensure coronavirus are seen later.

Normal symptoms which are seen when a person is infected from coronavirus are:

  • Tiredness
  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Headache
  • Runny nose

These things can be seen if a person is infected from coronavirus.

Prevention of coronavirus?

Finding ways to prevent the virus always remains a global challenge because it makes things complicated but it is very much essential to find the cure.

For its prevention, we should keep in mind that we don’t go to public places. Every measure should be kept in mind and everything has to be proper and perfect. For avoiding the contact of virus, regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available make sure you keep a hand sanitizer with you which contains at least 60% alcohol.

Many viruses are curable with the antibiotics present but it takes time to make the new vaccine which may cure the body without any harm. Even, it takes time to distribute to all the places where needed.

Governments, public bodies, and other organizations are also taking measures to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Look out for announcements of any new measures to stay up to date.

People with COVID-19 should isolate themselves at home and avoid contact with other people to prevent the illness from spreading. Keep surrounding surfaces as clean as possible and avoid sharing household items.

Always cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Face masks are generally necessary for people who have the illness. Anyone who has regular contact with people with COVID-19 should also wear a face mask.

It does not matter how strong your immunity system is. Everyone has to follow the precautions because it can attack any one of us and it may lead to a severe disease and our lives can get on stakes.

All the leads provided by the government should be followed to get away from this pandemic.

After knowing everything we must know what has to be done. Lockdown is causing losses to countries. As soon as we understand this, as soon as we understand how important it is to stay at home we will be able to fight this pandemic and everyone will be able to come back to their daily routines.
